SUPERNATURAL LOVE MEME MAY 2011

Calling all fandom! With ~24 hours to go before the Supernatural Season 6 Finale, I think it's time for...

What?

Think about what makes your Supernatural heart tick, and put those reasons out in the open. Let loose, express your love and your glee and your secret SPN-related delights.

The key? Be as specific as possible. Don't say things like, "I love me some hot leads" or "demons/angels/ghosts are cool" or "nifty props." That gets you a head nod, a quiet flutter of applause, perhaps. Dig deeper: "J2's chemistry really shows up on screen--especially when _____...") And it doesn't mean you have to get all meta and technical! Just specific: 4x02, "Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester." The idea of Bobby making Sam and Dean sleep on the couch/floor is totally endearing to me. :DD

These are the kinds of commentaries you get in obscure comment threads, or maybe in AIM windows, but there really isn't a collective place for them on LJ (to my knowledge)--especially for non-current episodes.

What Else? PICS. MACROS. GIFS. FICLETS. FIC RECS. ICONS. SKETCHES. VIDS. VID RECS. CANON VIDEO CLIPS. Start the love off with any kind of multimedia expression, or comment back to deck out someone else's with glorious pretties!

Why?

To connect. To open yourself. To archive. To express. To reawaken. To find kindred spirits. To come out of the closet. To bask in the (un)holy wonder that is OUR EPIC FANDOM.

Post Script

+ This is a SAFE SPACE for all kinks, fancies, little things of little consequence that you love anyway. I'm sure everyone has their skepticisms, reservations, or complaints, but this is not the place for them.

+ Can't think of anything? Read the meme! Build on your peers, or branch off. If someone digs Mary-as-Eve in the diner in 6x19, maybe it will inspire you to comment on how much you love Rufus. Or hell, maybe it'll make you nostalgic for Winchester-pure S1 MotWs--put it out there! (Just don't actively criticize S4/5/6 in the process. Save that for your journal! :P)

+ Though this comm promotes squee relating to anything SPN (fandom activities, fic, art, RPF, etc.), this particular meme is hyping up the S6 finale, so please keep your squee canon-centric. Commentary on the cast/crew as related to their roles on the show ("I love Ben Edlund's episodes because..." or "Jim Beaver does SUCH a good job in such-and-such a scene...")

+ THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE ZONE FOR ALL INFORMATION CONCERNING 6x21 and 6x22. The rest of the series is fair game.

+ ADVERTISING CODE:

Spread the love, peace out, and pluck those heartstrings!

Oh god Las. <333 Where did you get your hands on this. Also, awkwardly, because Castiel was in shadow here, at first I thought he was Meg's Silent Brother from S1.

AND THAT AUDIO. NGGGGH.

I love everything about Supernatural! Sorry, I can't be more specific than that!

Oh yes, I can.

How angsty Dean was in AHBL II.

How funny Sam was in Changing Channels.

How awkward Cas was when watching porn in (I forgot the episode!)

How tired Bobby was when he finally reached his house after breaking into the library in Weekend at Bobby's.

Some of my faves. :)
I was totally thinking about the beginning of AHBL II last night! Those scenes were absolutely phenomenal. They blow me away every time.

Sampala. :DDD And I loved Sam's sunglasses CSI crack, with the hair flip and all.

The Cas-watching-porn-episode was 6x10, Caged Heat. :) THE POOR GUY. XDD

Oh, Bobby. <3 That episode had so many great little scenes and parallels.
Dean's stupid pretty colt . It just makes me happy.
I Agree!

I think I will put here what I always use to pitch the show to my friends:

I have never seen a show that mananges to be so angsty and heartbreakingly sad while making me laugh so hard about it often at the same time AND really always has so suprising plot twists that I just sit at the edge of my seat.

Its just something so rare and wonderful, because it means that the show has made me care so much about the characters and their relationships that I'm just swept away with the tide.

Now I'm off to have me some Supernatural convention XD
ARE YOU GOING TO AECON?

I don't think I could ever accurately describe what it is about Supernatural that makes me love it so much. Sure, there's the obvious stuff like OMGHOTBOYS, but there's so much more. I'm so terrible with words most of the time, but when I try to put affection into words, I fail all over the place.
I love Supernatural. I just do. Hopefully someday I will be able to actually articulate my adoration properly. Until then, I will watch and laugh and cry and worry and sigh and angst and be amazed and be confused and get angry and be annoyed and be surprised and be blown away and continue to look for ways to explain myself.

That sums it all up right there!

Easy answer: Sam and Dean in all their unhealthily co-dependent glory. ♥ The dysfunctional family dynamics hooked me back in S1 and they are still the reason I am here, 6 years later.

I adore especially Supernatural's spotlight on the two sides of love. Sam and Dean's love for each other is their greatest strength, but also their greatest weakness; it saves them, but it also almost destroys them. Their love gives them the greatest sense of fulfilment and yet it limits their ability to grow as individuals. I don't know many shows that are this uncompromising about the darker and uglier sides of love, while still emphasising its beauty.
The first episode I ever watched was In My Time of Dying. The TV just happened to be on while I was puttering around, and the next thing I knew I was glued to the set. I thought the show was just about things that go bump in the night, but when I saw there was so much more--especially that family dynamic that runs through everything--I was hooked.

also because I forgot: Sam's hair and his FAAACCEEE and Deans lips and his man-pain (also Castiels general dishevelled-ness (I...don't think thats a word) and Bobby...just Bobby)

FAMILYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

GIFS FROM SPN THAT I LOVE: (I think they sort of encompass a lot of what I love about the show as well, even though I posted a billion here and didn't get all of them in.)

breathe

wing cas

SOB

WINK

2 guns, mofo

shoulder fix

awkward phone

gunnery

Impala wins

Pul-up Jared

lazarus tummy

OF COURSE, THERE ARE LIKE, A BILLION MORE, BUT HOLY HELL I LOVE THIS SHOW.
The one with Sam setting Dean's shoulder is one of the sexiest scenes ever (along with the one of Dean cutting his forearm with a machete in front of the lady vampire).

I just LOVE all the irreverent, whimsical, ballsy, dark humour. Black-and-white monster movie, old-timey western, the sickest, most twisted Christmas special ever, trickster-induced satyres of other shows, Supernatural fan convention in Supernatural, angel clueless about cell phones and air quotes, another angel who hates Céline Dion, Sam losing his shoe, manic-depressive teddy bears who shoot their brain stuffing out, Bobby asking a gore-splattered woman on a date, AU where Sam and Dean are Jared and Jensen and cannot act to save their lives, I am the Prophet Chuck! AND SO MUCH MORE! I marvel at how this show can scare the crap out of me and break my heart and then make me laugh so hard I spill ginger ale all over my dog.
This list is a thing of wonder. I have a pretty fail sense of humor, but I feel like SPN has given me one (along with the mentality of an oversexed, violence-happy nine year old). BUT ALL OF THESE THINGS YOU MENTION HERE ARE SUCH LOOOOOOVE. Some of the things this shows has or says, I can't believe they even allow on TV. Pushing the envelope, for sure.

I marvel at how this show can scare the crap out of me and break my heart and then make me laugh so hard I spill ginger ale all over my dog.

Your poor dog! But omg, yes. I've mentioned it on another thread somewhere in here, but the emotional whiplash Show orchestrates is stuff of legend.

Sam being all grrrrwallsmashy with his lovemaking and Dean being the exact opposite. It cracks me up. The rare and elusive bro hugs. The rare and elusive gen bed sharing fic. Also, the epic love story of Sam and Dean. <3

Protective!Sam. Bossy!Sam. Sam when he’s all like, EAT YOUR BREAKFAST! And Dean is like... okay. Big brother!Sam. Little brother!Sam. Sam growing up over the course of the show from a boy-man to a man. His shoulders unf.

Dean’s faaaaaaaaaaace. Dean’s freckles. His little freckled face in “Faith.” His glee over the smallest of things. His self-defence mechanisms. His post-hell issues. Sleeping on top of the covers with all his clothes on like he's always ready to kick some demon ass.

Alastair. Alastair, you were a BAMF, and I cry into my pillow at night over the loss of you. (Slight exaggeration.)

Lisa! You’re pretty bad-ass too. Who's on the Lisa train with me?

And last but not least, the abundance of h/c in this fandom. ::eats it up with a spoon::
Who's on the Lisa train with me?

I am.

Also, YES to everything. <3

I love the fact that character evolution happens, and is irreversible. It doesn't happen a lot that a character in a show will grow as dramatically as these characters do. And it goes on happening, in the middle of what might be expected to be a silly genre show about silly monsters.

I love the fact that the writers don't assume that the viewers can't grasp emotional complexity, or won't appreciate it. And that they're willing to push the envelope on this sort of development, and make it look a lot like real life. It works. It really, really works.
So true. Both the writers and actors are really gutsy about their characters and where they take them.

Things that I love about Supernatural, the sleep deprived, distracted version:

1. The universe itself. I love that there is this whole underground thing that 90% of the world has no fucking idea about, and the reason they don't know about it is that they have been conditioned not to believe in it, not really. And then when shit does come out of the woodwork to try to eat them, they are too busy having a mental breakdown to deal. It's like a huge mind fuck on the human race or something. And its all so labarynthine and unknown even to those who do deal with the supernatural stuff. And yeah, ok, show + continuity and sense making may not always coexist, nor shall we mention Samhain, but over all, the worldbuilding is fucking magnificent.

2. Family's where it's at. And the show never fucking forgets. Yes they have a cool concept and a cool world, but without that strong emotional core, it would all be for not. So yay for fucked up, intense family dynamics

3. Also, I love show's willingness to take risks. Because bringing actual angels and lucifer into the story line, huge fucking risk. Way to not rest on your laurels, show.

4. Sam and Dean.

5. All the awesome secondary characters that, even if we just see them for one episode, have a lot of life to them. My fave one ep wonder is that woman who had the little girl as her changling and then tried to drown her not!kid in the car, and just, omg she was amazing.

6. For making me want to write again so I could remember how much I enjoy it, even if I wail about all the deadlines I have imposed upon myself :P

7. The amazing fandom that circles around show like a maelstrom :D I have met so many many amazing wonderful people here.

<3

/gives up on embedding. Have a video link: http://youtu.be/CgoVuxvMAI8
Wow. Just wow.

You don't know me from a hole in the wall, but THIS ^^. All of it. Every last sleep-deprived, distracted word. This is how I feel about our amazing show.

*applauds while nodding*

I love it when the show makes me laugh. Like this:

Supernatural,6.14

And has actors that do things like this:

Jensen mic

Crotch mic

and this:

Cas,Supernatural

and this:

Matt2

Plus alpacas, because, you know.

Supernatural,6.15

But mostly I love this, because I'm easy like that:

Any idea what they're cracking up about in the last GIF? *iz intensely curious*

I love Show's eternal love affair with supremely awkward shades of green. Yes, all of them. ♥

I wish I had caps to better express this, but YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! XP
Do you mean all the motel rooms done up in hideous shades of lime, chartreuse, olive, pea, kelly, baby poo*, etc?

* "baby poo" is a colour. It's what they called disgusting brownish green on that decorating show with Vern Yip.

I do love the quirky and skeevy motel rooms.
